But what exactly is leadership?

When we last looked online, more than 180,000 books on the subject were available to buy. If you were to read one a day, every day, including weekends it would take 493 years to read them all and, of course, new ones are coming onto the market all the time.

Learning to lead is a journey

Sometimes it’s possible to pick up a list of top tips and achieve results by putting these tips into practice but we believe that this is the exception, not the rule.

We see leadership as a journey involving the integration of 3 important stages, beginning with leading and managing ourselves, or what we prefer to call Personal Leadership.

From this base, we can learn to effectively Lead and Manage Others and then to Lead and Manage the Business.

1. Developing Personal Leadership

Our programmes and development sessions help to raise self-awareness using many different approaches, from diagnostic assessments, dialogue and feedback, to business simulations and personal challenges.

You’ll learn to understand and enhance positive beliefs and behaviours and to overcome negative perceptions and barriers.

We focus on developing Emotional Intelligence — understanding the relationship between our thinking and feeling, and how we can use the power of emotion in our personal leadership, the leadership of others and beyond.

We’ll help you gain insight into how others see you and provide strategies for the better management of your Personal Resources: time; stress and energy levels; assertiveness; resilience; and motivation.

2. Lead and Manage Others

Leadership is dependent upon building effective relationships with others.

We need to focus on our ability to communicate and adapt our communication to meet the needs of different people, situations and circumstances. That includes how we establish and develop winning teams, inspire and motivate, manage conflict, influence, persuade and negotiate.

These abilities must be developed, not as semi-detached lists of rules, regulations, but as a personal repertoire – facets of who we are and how we do business.

3. Lead and Manage the Business

The origins of the word leadership invoke a sense of vision, of finding the path and showing the way.

The third stage of your leadership journey involves leading strategy; managing resources; operations; finance; and networking within and beyond the organisation. We’ll help you to develop the skills to lead and manage stakeholders, and align people and productive effort to the goals and values of your business.

Consequently, we tailor our programmes for each client, working with you to identify the outcomes, actions and behaviours that will add real value to your bottom line.

You know what you want to achieve so we will recommend, design and deliver an approach that meets your needs.

Leadership Development sessions can be delivered on-site, off-site, online or a blend of all three. Some sessions may last a day or more, others only an hour or an afternoon.

It all depends on what works best for you and your organisation.
